About the Author
David M. Levine is Professor Emeritus of Statistics and Computer Information Systems at Baruch College (City University of New York). He received B.B.A. and M.B.A. degrees in statistics from City College of New York and a Ph.D. from New York University in industrial engineering and operations research. He is nationally recognized as a leading innovator in statistics education and is the co-author of 14 books, including such best-selling statistics textbooks as Statistics for Managers Using Microsoft Excel, Basic Business Statistics: Concepts and Applications, Business Statistics: A First Course, and Applied Statistics for Engineers and Scientists Using Microsoft Excel and Minitab. He also is the co-author of Even You Can Learn Statistics: A Guide for Everyone Who Has Ever Been Afraid of Statistics, currently in its second edition, Six Sigma for Green Belts and Champions and Design for Six Sigma for Green Belts and Champions, and the author of Statistics for Six Sigma Green Belts, all published by FT Press, a Pearson imprint, and Quality Management, third edition, McGraw-Hill/Irwin. He is also the author of Video Review of Statistics and Video Review of Probability, both published by Video Aided Instruction, and the statistics module of the MBA primer published by Cengage Learning. Szabat is Associate Professor and Chair of Business Systems and Analytics at LaSalle University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in business statistics and operations management. She also teaches as Visiting Professor at the Ecole Superieure de Commerce et de Management (ESCEM) in France. Szabat’s research has been published in International Journal of Applied Decision Sciences, Accounting Education, Journal of Applied Business and Economics, Journal of Healthcare Management, and Journal of Management Studies. I needed this book for my MBA program with specific instruction NOT to get the International edition due to the exercises and HW given. I'm usually one to go ahead and pay the extra $ to get my books from the school bookstore, to assure I get the correct one and in plenty of time, but upon looking at Amazon this book was considerably cheaper here so I thought I'd give it a go. I typed in the correct ISBN that I needed (pretty hard to get the wrong book when you use an ISBN, or so I thought) and this option came up, along with the correct option (hardcover). This option was a little bit cheaper (my guess was because it was paperback) so I clicked on it. Being cautious, I spent quite a bit of time checking to make sure what I was getting was correct. There was another review saying Chad S. used this book for the same program at the same school (assuming CSU means Colorado State University), and the product description had the same title, edition #, authors, # of pages, cover picture... The webpage did have a line stating "same material as US edition" that made me a little weary but nowhere could I find anything saying this was the international edition and given Chad's review I thought I should be fine.When it arrived the cover was different than the picture on the webpage (see pic). I thought this may still be ok and may just be a new print run for the cover, but then it all started to come together/fall apart. The back cover says this book is only for sale in the eastern hemisphere and published in India. I took it to my first class and everyone else even though getting their books from different sources, had a hardcover. The first set of exercises were given in class and while everybody had charts and text about bar graphs my bargraph info. was on a different page and missing some of the charts. I hopped back on Amazon and now noticed in the details the publishing location between the my book and the hardcover option differ. Also for mine there isn't a specific ISBN listed on the webpage; however, this option still comes up when you type the correct ISBN. My physical book's barcode definitely has an ISBN that does not show up in the product details section and does not match what I entered.I guess shame on me a little, but give me a break. Although I didn't spend much time with this incorrect book, I still didn't see anything blatantly stating "International Edition". Props to Chad S. and the others who have made it through the same or similar course with this book. Not only are the page numbers a little different but I did notice in the one chapter I read with this copy that it included 2 extra paragraphs that the real book doesn't have, so I can only imagine their are other subtle differences throughout. I'm in the process of returning this, have ordered the correct one (more $) and will have to borrow a classmates book for my first week or two's homework. Not thrilled.Update: While Amazon makes returns (even to 3rd party's) fairly easy I'm a little annoyed that although I consider my return their error I still ended up footing the bill for shipping both ways. Took nearly 1 month for a few dollars return. Barely worth the hassle. Just learn from my mistake and forget about this book.
*** UPDATE ***Now I'm confused. I ordered my book from the US edition product page Statistics for Managers (white cover with a shopping cart), and posted my review accordingly. It turns out there is ANOTHER product page, Statistics For Managers Using Microsoft that has all the correct info for the international edition people receive - the ISBN, the green cover photo, etc. The most confusing part is BOTH PAGES USE THE SAME POOL OF CUSTOMER REVIEWS, even though the pages are currently NOT linked to each other as different versions of the same book. So depending on which page you're reading this on, you may be getting a different impression of the unhappy reviewers' sanity.The prices on the international edition page Statistics For Managers Using Microsoft are lower, for what ends up being the same book offered by the same sellers. My original review was 4 stars, downgrading it now to 3.*** ORIGINAL REVIEW ***Like many others, I received an international version. For my purposes, it doesn't have to be an exact match to the US edition, so I'll keep it, but if someone is looking for a specific US course book, beware. This is NOT the book as described on the product page.As of this writing, the product page says:Publisher: PH; Seventh Edition - paperback - **NOT INTERNATIONAL EDITION** edition (2013)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 8120348133ISBN-13: 978-8120348134The ISBN for the book I received is 978-93-325-5687-4, copyrighted 2016. It also says it's an adaptation of the US edition ISBN 978-0-13-306-181-9, copyrighted 2014. The only difference is the triangle in the top left corner that's completely red and says 'Cicrulation of this edition outside the Indian subcontinent is UNATHORIZED'. So the cover is green and has various charts, and not the one you see in the product photo (white background with a shopping cart).The pages of my book have a pretty obnoxious 'industrial' kind of odor. Must be the ink they used for printing this edition?As this book is only offered by third party sellers, they might all be offering different versions, who knows. For what it's worth, I ordered mine from BestStore4Books (and their shipping was fast).
This book is a powerhouse of information along the lines of the subject matter. In places, the book is very wordy and complicated, but that is what Professors, Instructors, Teachers and your math tutor are for should you get lost in the text. Eventhough my class is over, I am continuing on with the book due to how important the subject matter is to me. This book seems to have everything but the kitchen sink. The on-line material that is associated with this text are top notch. Data sets, Excell examples (with formulas) and quick guides help to make the subject matter more clear. The only down side of this book is that at the current time it is hella expensive. I will be turning in my beloved hard copy for a paperback and rock on.
